There is a unique kind of fun & life in photographing young families. As a wedding photographer, it’s always fun for me to switch gears and photograph something different.
Having littles ones is a season filled with movement and energy and fleeting moments.
Toddlers explore, babies cling close, and parents do their best to soak it all in amidst the sleepless nights.
It is not always polished, but it is always deeply meaningful.

Letting Go of Perfect
When working with families in this stage of life, there is a gentle shift in expectations. The goal is not perfectly posed smiles or everyone looking at the camera at the same time, like you might see for wedding family photos. Instead, it is about creating space for your family to simply be together.
This is where the magic happens. The playful, organic moments.
Children are free to move, to laugh, and even to have their quiet moments. Parents are encouraged to engage, to hold, to play. The result is a collection of images that feel honest and full of life.

Young Families in Motion
Photographing young families means embracing the in-between. It is the little (often unseen) moments that tell your story most clearly. The way your child leans into you. The way you instinctively reach for them. The small interactions that might otherwise go unnoticed.
As a Baltimore family photographer, these sessions are designed to feel relaxed and natural.

But setting matters too! Some of my favorite places to photograph young families?
- Sherwood Gardens: offer a vibrant, seasonal backdrop
- Loch Raven: brings a calm and earthy feel. Both settings allow your family’s connection to take center stage.
- Your home! I love a cozy in-home session, it can be the most relaxed place for family photos!

This sweet family met up with me at Sherwood Gardens here in Baltimore.
This is one of my favorite locations! Especially in the Spring! Can you beat the gorgeous flowers and garden landscapes? Followed by the lakeside waterfront?
They were celebrating their little one’s first birthday! I’ve found that milestones are a great motivation to book your family photos. Whether your baby just learned to sit up, or you’re celebrating a birthday (or any other milestone!)… these can be a great reason to pause and capture this season of life.
It’s so easy for everything to blur together when you’re in the thick of it.
The baby & toddler trenches are real! But taking time to really slow everything down, and capture all these moments you’ll miss one day? That’s everything.

Holding Onto What Matters
This stage of life moves quickly. The days can feel full, but the years pass quietly. Choosing to document your family during this time is about more than photographs. It is about preserving a feeling.
For young families, these images become a way to remember not just how life looked, but how it felt to be in it together.
