Introducing Little Whimsy’s New Baltimore Photography Studio

LWPCO

For eighteen months, I ran Little Whimsy Portrait Co. out of my guestroom. I want to make that sound charming, but honestly, some days the ceiling felt too low. The light was never quite right either. I knew if I wanted to keep capturing real kids being real kids, not posed and polished but exactly as they are, Little Whimsy needed a proper Baltimore photography studio to call home.

This year, that finally happened.

From a Guestroom to a Real Studio

Before the studio, I photographed most Little Whimsy sessions in my guestroom. For a while, I also offered mobile, in-home sessions for families who had the space for it. Both worked, but neither felt like a real home base. Just before Christmas in 2025, I started construction on an in-home portrait studio in Bel Air, Maryland, just outside Baltimore. Every detail in that build had one job: helping kids feel comfortable enough to just be themselves in front of the camera.

What Makes This Baltimore Photography Studio Different?

The backdrop is plain white on purpose. There are no bright colors competing for attention and no elaborate props pulling focus from your child. A simple, uncluttered space lets a real personality come through instead of a prop or a pattern. I want people looking at these portraits in ten years to see your kid, not the set.

That focus shows up in the small things too. Your child’s expressions. The way they wrinkle their nose when they smile. The serious little face that will look completely different in six months. Those are the details I’m actually working to capture, and a clean backdrop is what lets them stand out.

Having a real Baltimore photography studio also means the day itself runs smoother. Weather can’t cancel a session or force a reschedule anymore. A few things I built in on purpose:

  • Easy to clean surfaces, in case someone shows up with wet shoes or sticky hands
  • Plenty of space both inside the studio and just outside it
  • A toddler friendly bathroom, which matters a lot for families driving in from farther out
  • A quiet, familiar space with nothing extra to distract a two year old

Most sessions wrap up before a little one has time to wonder when they’re going home.

Personality Comes Before Perfect

I tell parents this all the time. I don’t need your child to sit still, and honestly, I hope they don’t. Some of my favorite portraits happen in between the posed shots, when a sibling gets a surprise hug or someone makes a ridiculous face at the camera. Those moments aren’t backup images. More often than not, they’re the ones a family ends up loving the most.

Built for Real Kids, Not Just Portraits

The guestroom simply stopped being enough for the Baltimore photography studio I wanted Little Whimsy to become. This space is more than a photography studio to me. It’s somewhere families can come back to year after year. First birthdays, missing front teeth, the first day of kindergarten, a sibling who suddenly isn’t a baby anymore. I wanted a studio that could grow alongside the kids I photograph, instead of one they’d outgrow after a single session.

FAQs

Where is the new Little Whimsy studio located?

The new Little Whimsy Portrait Co. studio is in Bel Air, Maryland, just outside Baltimore. It’s an in-home studio built specifically for kids’ portrait sessions, with easy parking and a toddler-friendly bathroom for families driving in from farther out.

Does Little Whimsy offer full family portrait sessions?

No. Little Whimsy focuses specifically on personality portraits of kids, not full family sessions. If you’re looking for a full family session with Jen, that’s a separate service at jenharveyphotography.com/family.

Do I need to worry about my child sitting still for portraits?

No. I never ask kids to sit perfectly still, and some of my favorite images happen between the posed shots. Giggling, silly faces, and sibling hugs aren’t mistakes. They’re usually the photos a family ends up loving most.

What happens if it rains on the day of our session?

Nothing changes. Because the new studio is an indoor, purpose-built space, weather can’t cancel or delay a session the way it can with an outdoor location.
